The challenge: a new packaging size for curious consumers
Bota Box is already a leader in the 3-liter bag-in-box wine category but wanted to explore smaller packaging options.
Recently, they announced the launch of Bota Brick, a groundbreaking new entry in the 1.5-liter wine category—and turned to SIG to develop a new sizing option.
The solution: versatility through flexible packaging
Bota Box explored new sizes through the versatility of flexible packaging and began testing the new 1.5L format (which holds the equivalent of two 750mL bottles) with consumers. In addition to featuring the same environmentally-friendly packaging as the original Bota Box, the brand was hopeful the smaller format would pique the interests of new consumers and engage buyers who may be new to bag-in-box wine options.
Turns out, the new format was overwhelmingly popular. "In pilot tests, Bota Brick demonstrated strong consumer pull in the 1.5L category, previously untapped by producers of premium boxed wine," said Mark Koppen, Marketing Brand Director, Bota Box. "Bota Brick is at the forefront of paving the way for this new innovation, and we are eager to continue the positive momentum with the national rollout."
The result: a whole new consumer base for wine
Bota Box retained the hallmarks of its original 3L packaging—boxes made from unbleached, 100% recyclable post-consumer fiber—while exploring an entirely new product category. Our patented bag-in-box technology allows consumers to enjoy wine with the same promise of freshness as Bota Box's 3L packaging: Bota Brick wines can stay fresh for up to four weeks after opening.
By choosing bag-in-box over glass, Bota Brick was able to reduce material weight by 90%.
