In part four of our World of Water series, we look at how you can offer packaged water drinks that reduce plastic waste and minimise your impact

So far in our World of Water series, we’ve looked at the enduring appeal of water, the growth of packaged drinking water, and why consumers are swapping sodas for near-water drinks. In all these trends, it’s clear that consumers are not only seeking natural and healthy drink products; they’re also considering how ethical and sustainable the packaging is. So how can you offer water products that are good for both consumers and the environment?

Reshaping the bottle

It might look and handle like a bottle but our combidome solution offers all the environmental benefits of a carton pack. In fact, it provides the best CO2 in the market compared to other packaging solutions. Even with our standard packaging material structure, across its lifecycle, its carbon footprint is significantly smaller than that of bottles: for the 1 Liter combidome beverage carton, 75% less than glass, 41% less than multilayer PET and 27% less than monolayer PET.

Sustainability in a pack

Our SIGNATURE PACK FULL BARRIER, meanwhile, features polymers that are 100% linked to plant-based renewable materials via a mass balance system. Like all our structures, the main material is sustainably-sourced FSC™-certified paperboard. And it also uses an ultra-thin layer of aluminium certified to the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) standard.

A straw with a difference

Did you know that SIG launched the industry’s first market-ready alternative to plastic straws for beverage carton packs? Our fully renewable and recyclable paper straw is designed to help you meet the growing demand for plastic-free packaging, prove your commitment to the environment, and maintain the convenience of small-size, on-the-go packs.
