In March 2023, the Recycle for Good program in Indonesia was initiated by SIG, a leading solutions provider of packaging with a unique portfolio of aseptic carton, bag-in-box, and spouted pouch. This program is supported by the SIG Foundation and aims to create behavioral change, encourage the public to deliver their recyclable waste to a collection point and practice the circular economy.
The Recycle for Good program started with a drop point located at Cibubur Junction Mall, East Jakarta, encouraging the public to come and to bring their collected recyclable waste. One year after its launch, over 770 families have collected more than 11,700 kilograms of recyclable materials.
Now, SIG is expanding the reach of its Recycle for Good program in collaboration with Armada Kemasan as its waste management partner to increase the number of collection points, from just one collection point at Cibubur Junction to 151 collection points in Jakarta and Greater Jakarta Area.
“SIG aims to get net positive across its value chain. By 2030, SIG strives to halve its environmental impact and double its benefit to society. Today, SIG is glad to announce the expansion of our Recycle for Good program. Last year, we established a single collection point at Cibubur Junction, which delivered good results with measurable positive impact. Now, we want to increase the impact of this program, where we are collaborating with Armada Kemasan, one of our long-term partners, to establish more collection points where the public can bring their collected recyclable waste. If with one collection point we were able to create such positive impact over the last year, imagine what we could do with 150 more points across Jakarta”, said Noer Wellington, Head of Market Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Philippines at SIG.
“Waste poses a significant global challenge. Preserving natural habitats for the next generation is one of the main objectives of the SIG Foundation. Thus, we are delighted that SIG is leading the way with the Recycle for Good initiative in Indonesia. By expanding this project, SIG is actively contributing to the recycling efforts and reducing waste by reintroducing recyclable materials into the cycle,” said Holger Dickers, Managing Director SIG Foundation.
“As a waste management partner that has worked together with SIG for several years, Armada Kemasan is proud to be part of SIG’s Recycle for Good program. We believe that by participating in Recycle for Good, the public can start taking steps to live a more sustainable lifestyle by doing simple actions, such as sorting their recyclable waste at home and bringing them to our collection points. Together with SIG, Armada Kemasan is committed towards creating a more sustainable environment and we encourage the public to find the Recycle for Good collection point nearest to their homes and start collecting waste, which we will then be recycled into something useful and beneficial,” said Arnold Abdi, Managing Director, Armada Kemasan.
The Recycle for Good program is part of SIG’s roadmap to becoming a net positive business, which gives back more to people and the planet than it takes out.
About SIG Way Beyond Good Foundation
The SIG Way Beyond Good Foundation envisions a future in which good nutrition and clean water will be available to everyone and natural habitats will be preserved for future generations. The Way Beyond Good Foundation’s purpose is to partner with others to identify, drive and promote activities and projects that strengthen civil society and create positive impacts for the environment. Cartons for Good was the foundation’s first project. It offers innovative solutions against food loss and malnutrition. In Bangladesh, where the foundation is running the project since 2019, surplus food will be preserved in SIG packs for schools to offer underprivileged children regular lunches throughout the year. Recycle for Good is the Foundation's first project in the field of recycling and part of SIG's Resource+ commitment. It is based on a reward system in which people receive points for handing in recyclable materials, which they can exchange for food and other essential goods or vouchers or donate to a social organization. The overall purpose of the program is to change people's behavior and be mindful of natural resources. Established in 2018, the SIG Way Beyond Good Foundation is based in Neuhausen, Switzerland.
