In part four of our Power of One series, we’ll look at the solutions SIG is offering to meet the demand for more single-serve options without sacrificing sustainability

In part three of our Power of One series, we saw how SIG has a whole range of packaging and filling solutions that are tailormade for single-serve products. From combismile* and drinksplus to combidome, combiblocXSlim and more, our solutions are ready to help meet the ever-growing demand for more unique, convenient, premium and healthy single-serve beverages. But how exactly are they helping brands and producers stand out? Here’s a rundown of some recent cases and innovative product launches with SIG…

Expanding in Europe

For Finnish food producer Juustoportti, combismile offered the perfect combination of size ranges from 200ml to 350ml, two drinking options – a single-action closure or a paper straw – and standout packaging to introduce their new Friendly Viking’s Oat Drinks to Europe’s on-the-go market.

And through combismile’s built-in drinksplus solution, Juustoportti can further expand its portfolio of plant-based beverages that contain real food pieces such as fruit or oats – reaching a greater audience for its single-serve offerings.

On-the-go in Vietnam

In Vietnam, combismile is meeting the rapid growth of dairy and the demands of a younger generation seeking more on-the-go drinks. Nestlé Vietnam was looking for a pack to complement its latest additions to its popular Milo malted milk line: MILO Breakfast and MILO Classic.

Nestle Vietnam found that combismile’s offerings of a curved and modern shape, easy-grip corners and resealable spout appealed to a younger generation of consumers. And with combismile’s volume variety, Nestle Vietnam has the option for future expansion into beverage products, like ready-to-drink teas and coffees and on-the-go drinking milk snacks and plant-based dairy alternatives.

Extra slim in India

With a rise in young and middle-class urban consumers, India has seen high growth in small-format beverages in recent years. For Kandhari Beverage Ltd., this offered an opportunity to be the first manufacturer to provide the Indian market with innovative products in SIG cartons.

To launch their popular mango drink brand Maaza Refresh, Khandari Beverage chose the high flexibility offered by combiblocXSlim – in combination with SIG’s drinksplus solution. combiblocXSlim offers nine volume sizes ranging from 80 to 200 ml to meet diverse consumer demands at various price points, while drinksplus enables Khandari Beverage to enhance its beverage offerings with real food pieces such as fruits, vegetables, nuts and cereal grains with no preservatives.

Going premium in Thailand

When start-up Tofusan was looking to launch the first organic UHT soymilk in Thailand, they turned to SIG and combiblocMini as the packaging solution for their ‘less is more’ natural premium soymilk. Made only from organic USDA-certified soybeans and organic sugar without emulsifiers and stabilisers or creamers and oils, the soymilk needed a package to match its environmentally friendly nature.

As with all packs from SIG, combiblocMini blocks out light and air and allow for safe, long-life storage and transportation, without the need for refrigeration or preservatives – while its trendy design and single-serving size appeal to the on the move lifestyle of younger, health-conscious consumers.

A responsible way for water

Looking to become the UK’s lowest carbon footprint drinks brand by 2022, start-up DRINKS3 (Drinks Cubed) chose SIG’s combidome carton bottle for their new mineral water, WATER3. Fully recyclable, combidome combines the shape and pouring action of a bottle with the increased sustainability of a carton pack – making it the perfect pack for single-serving and on-the-go drinks compared to other packaging alternatives.

WATER3 also uses SIG’s SIGNATURE packaging material which is composed of 100% forest-based renewable materials. Added to this is an ultra-thin layer of aluminium foil certified to the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) standard.

Single serving with SIG

As the worldwide demand for convenient single-serve packs increases, SIG will continue to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions like our combismile pack – without the need for increasing energy usage and consumption of raw materials or sacrificing efficiency.

And many SIG packs can be combined with our SIGNATURE solution, the world’s first aseptic packaging structure 100% linked to forest-based materials. Through SIGNATURE packaging material, brands can meet the demands for single-serve beverages and snacks while also supporting sustainability through the use of fully renewable and recyclable materials.

More than just packs

Our work toward increased sustainability doesn’t end with our packs. Our flexible filling machines allow you to fill up to nine different carton volumes while using less water, energy and compressed air. And through the use of innovative auditing and digital solutions, we’re helping our customers optimise their existing filling lines to minimise waste while maximising efficiency and cost-effectiveness as well using fewer resources.
